The foundational series
Grammar of the Republic
A free people cannot keep what it cannot read. Over thirty weeks this series rebuilds the vocabulary of self-government from its sources: the Scriptures that shaped the founders, the English words they argued over, and the grammar of the documents they left behind.

Why a grammar
Self-government depends on theological and linguistic literacy: a people that cannot read its own charter cannot keep it. Surveys keep showing the gap. In recent Annenberg Constitution Day polling, about a third of U.S. adults still cannot name all three branches of the federal government, and an even larger share cannot say how the military sits under civilian authority in that same design. This series starts with words before it reaches institutions, because the founders argued in Scripture and in English, and the documents they left still turn on the meanings they gave those words.
Read the series one essay a week, in order. Each entry links its primary sources, so the claim and the document sit side by side. Start at Week 01 and move forward; the vocabulary builds from one week to the next.
